Bandipora, July 19: A cloudburst struck the Dawar area of Gurez in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Sunday morning, damaging a cowshed, washing away a portion of a link road and causing a sharp rise in the water level of a local stream. No loss of life or injuries were reported.
Officials said the sudden cloudburst triggered flash floods in the area, disrupting movement after a link road leading towards Mousum was damaged. The surge in the nallah also affected nearby public infrastructure, leaving residents stranded on either side of the washed-out road.
A cowshed suffered extensive damage in the incident, with two cows and household belongings reportedly trapped inside. Local residents said the flash flood brought mud, stones and debris, causing panic among people living nearby.
Police personnel rushed to the spot soon after the incident to assess the damage, while the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) launched restoration work to clear debris and restore road connectivity. Authorities said the extent of the losses is being assessed.
Officials urged residents to avoid overflowing streams, landslide-prone areas and other vulnerable locations as intermittent rainfall continues across Kashmir. The administration is closely monitoring the situation, and restoration efforts are underway.
