Sopore, Feb 22 : A day after Municipal Council President Sopore lost a no-confidence motion, no elections are being held for the post leaving people to speculate about the delay.
The former MC President Abdul Ahad was removed after 14 councilors casted their votes against him while as 6 other councillors walkout.
Since January 2021, no elections were held for the president post in Sopore with administration still in a dizzy as who is the competent authority to hold the elections.
The councilors in Sopore claim that in rest of the Baramulla district, elections were held and the municipal presidents elected but same is not the case in Sopore.
Election Officer Baramulla Sameer Jan told Kashmir Despatch that election will be held very soon soon however it needs a go ahead from Deputy Commissioner’s office.
“Since the president MC Sopore was removed through a no confidence motion, we can’t hold elections on our own. New elections for president post will be held after orders from the office of DC Baramulla,” Jan said.
He said that office of Deputy Commissioner Baramulla has been informed about the holding of elections and they are waiting for further orders.
