Jammu, March 10: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday unveiled the 2025 budget, describing it as a “love letter” to the people of the region. He passionately defended the budget against opposition claims that it was tailored to benefit the BJP, asserting that it was designed to address the aspirations and challenges of all citizens.
Speaking in the assembly, CM Omar Abdullah as per Kashmir Despatch emphasized that the budget represents a realistic and transformative roadmap for the Union Territory. “Whatever we say is labeled as a love letter. I am now very cautious, as everything is interpreted that way. But I own this love letter, even if the opposition claims it is meant for the BJP. I say it is a love letter to all parties, independents, BJP supporters, and the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Love letters convey affection, and I have great love for the people of JK,” he said.
Abdullah pledged to continue writing such “love letters” over the next five years, underscoring his commitment to the region’s progress and welfare.
A Budget Rooted in Love and Realism
The Chief Minister passionately defended the budget, highlighting its focus on love, commitment, and progress. “This budget is a love letter—not just to political parties, but to every citizen of Jammu and Kashmir,” he declared. “We write love letters to express care, and through this budget, we aim to address the needs of those who need it most.”
Acknowledging the financial constraints faced by the Union Territory, Abdullah stressed that the budget reflects a realistic approach to overcoming these challenges. “Some called my speech pessimistic, but it was simply honest. We face wounds, but we are determined to heal them step by step,” he said.
Prioritizing Welfare and Long-Term Growth
The 2025 budget prioritizes social welfare, infrastructure development, and economic growth. While acknowledging the limitations in providing immediate solutions such as 24-hour electricity or free power, Abdullah highlighted the government’s efforts to increase social benefits for the poor and invest in sustainable development.
“We may not have enough resources today, but we are building a foundation for a prosperous future,” he stated. The budget outlines plans to boost tourism, develop industrial estates, and support start-ups and entrepreneurship as key drivers of economic growth.
Acknowledging Central Support, Aiming for Self-Reliance
Abdullah openly acknowledged the financial support from the Central Government, stating, “There is no shame in admitting that we rely on central funds. Our goal, however, is to achieve financial independence for Jammu and Kashmir.” He emphasized the government’s commitment to reducing dependency on central aid and fostering self-reliance through strategic investments and policy reforms.
Empowering the People
In his concluding remarks, Abdullah reaffirmed his government’s commitment to restoring dignity and empowerment to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. “This budget is not just about numbers; it’s about people. It’s about creating a future where every citizen feels valued and empowered,” he said.
Expressing confidence in the transformative potential of the 2025 budget, the Chief Minister declared, “In five years, we will restore the dignity of our people and build a stronger, more prosperous Jammu and Kashmir. This is our love letter to you.”
The budget has been widely praised as a bold and compassionate step toward addressing the region’s challenges while paving the way for a brighter future. As the people of Jammu and Kashmir look ahead, the 2025 budget stands as a testament to their resilience and the government’s unwavering commitment to their well-being.
