New Dehli MAy 29 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said that connectivity remains a key priority for his government, as he announced that the Sevoke-Rangpo rail project will soon link Sikkim to the national rail network.
Due to bad weather, PM Modi’s visit to Sikkim was cancelled. He addressed the people virtually from the Air Force base in Bagdogra, West Bengal, during an event marking 50 years of Sikkim’s statehood.
Calling Sikkim the “pride of the nation,” PM Modi praised the state’s democratic spirit and growing success in organic farming. “Sikkim’s increasing organic exports are a big achievement for the state,” he said.
During the virtual event, the Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone and inaugurated several development projects. These include a 500-bedded district hospital in Namchi built at a cost of over ?750 crore, a passenger ropeway in Gyalshing district, and a statue of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
Modi was originally scheduled to fly from Bagdogra to Gangtok’s Liping helipad and attend the celebrations at Paljor Stadium but had to change plans due to adverse weather conditions.
