Bandipore, Jan 03 : The councilors of Municipal Committee have moved a no-confidence motion against the incumbent president for failing to deliver his duties.

According to wire service- the no-confidence motion has been moved by eleven elected councilors against the incumbent president MC Bandipore Khursheed Ahmad Ganai.

The councilors have alleged that during the tenure of the incumbent president there has been no visible development on ground in Bandipore town.

As the no-confidence motion was moved against the president, executive officer Bandipore called a meeting of all the councilors under sub-25 of the J&K Municipality Act 2000, to discuss the no-confidence on 2nd January, however, due to official holiday the date was rescheduled to January 6th.

The councilors had to go through floor test to prove their majority against the incumbent president. The councilors who have moved the motion alleged that the concerned executive officer has been delaying the floor test due some political interference.

”The meeting was to be convened on 2nd January but due to official holiday the date was rescheduled to 6 Jan, however, as per the by-laws of Muncipal Committee Act the floor test has to be done within 48 hours of moving the no-confidence motion but there has been unnecessary delay, ” Basharat Hussian, who is also the vice-president MC Bandipore told.

He said that there should be no political interference in the official procedure and things should be done as per the rules.

The councilors said that eleven councilors have moved the no-confidence motion out of 15 elected councilors and things are clear that majority is against the incumbent president who is using all his political interference to get the floor test delayed.

Pertinent to mention, that the incumbent president is the younger brother of former MLA Bandipore Usman Majid.

The councilors said that today they also met the deputy commissioner Bandipore and apprised him about the development. “We informed the DC Bandipore that even after passing of more than 48 hours the floor test has not been done which smacks of some political interference, ” they said.

Another councilor from Ward No. 2 of Bandipore town Engineer Tahir Ahmad said that they moved the no-confidence motion because the incumbent president has miserably failed to deliver his duties vis-a-vis development of the Bandipore town during last one year of assuming of his office, ” he said.

Bandipore Municipality has 17 wards out of which 15 have elected councilors while two wards had remained vacant. Khursheed Ganai was unanimously elected as president MC Bandipore last year and was representing the Congress party. Meanwhile, an official of MC Bandipore said that the process has been stayed as of now so the floor test would not been done till the stay is vacated. (KNO)
