COVID-19: 20 persons detained for violating govt orders

Sopore, March 23 : At least 20 people on Monday were detained by police in north Kashmir’s Sopore town for allegedly violating orders by the administration against assembly of more than three persons to prevent spread o coronavirus.

The administration had already imposed restrictions and appealed public as well as shopkeepers to obey the order and to co-operate with authorities in order to tackle COVID-19. However several shopkeepers and transporters in town didn’t follow the instructions and opened shops as per their own will.

A police officer told GNS said arrested persons, despite multiple announcements, refused to follow the instructions. “We have arrested them now they will face the consequences as per law,” he said. The officer however appealed the general public to stay indoors, take precautionary measures, and cooperative with civil administration to tackle the coronavirus. (GNS)
