COVID Back In J&K: Two Fresh Cases Reported in Each Division

Srinagar, Dec 29: As coronavirus cases continue to rise in different states of India, the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir reported two fresh cases on Friday, officials said.

An official told Kashmir Despatch, one fresh COVID case was reported in Jammu division, and another in the Kashmir division.

In the past 24 hours, a total of 458 COVID tests were conducted, the official informed.

Currently, there are four active cases in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir, with one in the Jammu Division and three in the Kashmir region, the official added.

Notably, India recorded 797 fresh cases of Covid-19 and five deaths in the last 24 hours, as per data released by the Union health ministry on Friday.

The total number of active cases is 4,091, as per the data on the health ministry website as of Friday morning. The official data also showed five covid deaths, with two in Kerala, and one each in Maharashtra, Puducherry, and Tamil Nadu.

Since the outbreak of coronavirus in January 2020, the total count has reached 4,50,10,944 in India, with the death toll due to Covid-19 cases rising to 5,33,351.

With the emergence of the new covid sub-variant and cold weather conditions, the number of cases has once again increased.

During the peak of the pandemic, the daily numbers reached lakhs. Over the past four years, the country has seen more than 4.5 crore people infected and over 5.3 lakh deaths.

The number of people who have recovered from the disease stands at over 4.4 crore, with a national recovery rate of 98.81%, according to the ministry’s website.

To date, 220.67 crore doses of Covid vaccines have been administered in the country, according to the government’s website.
