The coronavirus pandemic has seen an uncountable number of heartwarming incidents where good Samaritans have come out to try and help those reeling under the effects of the virus. Among them is also this 32-year-old man Showkat Mohiuddin who has been delivering health care facilities to patients throughout the lockdown.
Sopore’s Showkat Mohiuddin who also owns Medina Medicate has been working hard to supply daily needed items and medicines to those who were sick or tested positive and were under home isolation.
He was seen on his bike, car taking rides across the town and villages wherever the call for help came from.
He never charged anything extra for delivering the medicines and other aides.
“Earlier during the lockdown, I used to get at least 20 or more phone calls requesting for delivery of medicines. I never charged anything extra for delivering the medicines or medical items both within the town and on the outskirts. It was a honor to serve people amidst tough times,” Showkat said.
He used to deliver to at least 8-9 places a day following proper precautions.
Donning a PPE kit to protect himself from coming into direct contact with anyone else, he ensured no one gets affected from his side.
Showkat says he used to take orders on WhatsApp or via call and insist people send the payment through digital medium.
“People are facing tough times and asking money for medicines on the spot was a bit awkward for me. I insisted on payment via an online medium and people mostly used to pay instantly. Few people whom I delivered medicines to were not in a condition to pay, I never asked for it from them,” he added.
In times when everyone is scared to step out of their homes, such people who have been working relentlessly with a smile on their face deserve a salute. Besides saving lives, they have spread a message that helping others is more important than sitting back at home.
