Crack down on illegal extraction of sand, 9 held in Sopore

Sopore : Police in north Kashmir’s Sopore claimed to have arrested nine persons in connection with illegal extraction of sand in the Sopore police district.

In a statement issued to Kashmir Despatch reads, A stringent action has been taken by Sopore Police against nine tractor drivers who were indulging in illegal extraction of minor minerals i sand and further unauthorisedly transporting it within the Police District.

A team headed by SDPO Rafiabad Ameen Bhat-JKPS and SHO Police Station Dangiwacha Insp. Imtiyaz Ahmad and Incharge Police Post Watergam PSI Bilal Rashid seized nine tractors during the naka checking at Laiser crossing in the jurisdiction of Police Station Dangiwacha. The tractors were loaded with illegally extracted sand.

In this connection case under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Dangiwacha and further investigation has been taken up.

People are requested to inform illegal extraction of these resources either from rivers or from any other Nallah in the police district and warns stringent action against those people whosoever found guilty in the said crime the statement further reads.
