Crows found dead in Shopian triggering bird flu scare

Shopian, Feb 22 : Amid the bird flu scare, as many as crows were found dead in Shopain village in southern region of Kashmir on Monday.

Reports reaching Kashmir Despatch said several crows were found dead in Balapora Shopian on Monday.

The incident triggered panic among the locals as they feared the possibility of the bird flu outbreak in the area, reports added.

Confirming the incident an official said that soon after news spread in the area a team of Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) visited the area and collected the samples and sent for examination to Zakura laboratory.

The official further said that the test reports would confirm if it is the bird flu or there was any other reason for the deaths.

It is pertinent to mention that cases of avian influenza were found at various places in J&K among migratory birds and crows, however, cases of avian influenza among domestic birds were found so far in Udhampur only
