Lolab youth organization stages protest, appeals LG to intervene

Srinagar, Oct 09, : Residents of Dardpora village of Lolab in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district aghast over what they allege that their village is void of all kinds of basic amenities viz roads, healthcare and playground etc.

Dozens of Protestors, under the banner of Lolab Youth Organization on Friday assembled in Press Enclave Srinagar and staged a protest demonstration to press for fulfillment of their demands.

Parvaiz Rasool one of the protestor said that since past 60 years Dardpora residents have been ignored by the successive governments, with the result local populace of the area is facing immense hardships.

He said the road from the bus stand to Mir Mohalla passing from Sheikh Mohalla, Mir Mohalla and Haji Mohalla have not been macadamized from last 60 years and school-going children, pregnant ladies and patients are forced to walk on this dilapidated road.

Another protestor told that the hospital dispensary, which was set up 60 years ago, is in a pathetic condition.

“In case a person falls ill, he has to be carried on the up-to main road to be shifted to district hospital in Kupwara or a Srinagar hospital, which has resulted in the death of several patients on their way, to reach a medical facility,” he added.

Even the children of the area lack facilities for recreation, entertainment of physical activities, said another protestor Bilal Ahmed.

He said, “We have requested the authorities to provide a playground for the youth of the area, but unfortunately our repeated requests have fallen to deaf ears.”

He said that not a single Deputy Commissioner has not visited the village in last 60 years.

The protesting youth organization appealed the Lt. Governor administration to personally intervene and redress their genuine grievances. (KDC)
