‘Gunfight on in area’
Srinagar, Jan 22 : After a night-long lull, fresh exchange of firing was witnessed at Khrew area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Wednesday resulting in the killing of a militant while as police said operation was on in the area as another militant was believed to be trapped in the area.
According to wire service—Kashmir police on its official twitter handle, confirmed the killing of a militant at Khrew stating that the gunfight in the area was on.
The encounter started early on Tuesday morning at Zantrag area of Khrew in Pulwama when two militants resorted to heavy firing on the security forces killing two security personnel including a soldier and a SoG man in the initial exchange of firing.
The operation was jointly being carried out by the 50 RR of army, 185 battalion of CRPF and the police. An official told news agency that the operation was put on a halt even as search for the bodies of militants continued throughout the night and in the morning as well.
“But in the morning, while the debris was being cleared, militants opened fired at the forces triggered off the encounter again. In the ensuing gun-fight, one unidentified militant was killed while there is a report that another one is hiding in the area,” the official said. (KNO)
