Day 55 :  Restrictions continue for 2nd day in valley

Srinagar, September 28, : Restrictions imposed on Friday continued to remain in place even on Saturday, the 55th consecutive day of lockdown, after Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan delivered an offensive speech against India in UN General Assembly, for abrogating Article 370 and subsequent imposition of restrictions, disrupting normal life in valley.

Undeclared curfew like situations restrictions in sensitive parts of Srinagar remained in place, while people were stopped from going towards downtown Srinagar, after militants hurled a grenade on a police party in Nawakadal area.

Meanwhile movement of private vehicles as well as public transport witnessed a decline on Saturday.

Heavy deployment of security forces was witnessed across the valley, while sensitive areas were sealed with concertina wires and police and force personnel maintained a strict vigil on entry and exit points.

Attendances of employees in government offices also remained affected.

Mobile and internet services continued to remain suspended across the valley, except in Kupwara and Handwara, where authorities have restored these services, but with a complaint of poor connectivity from the locals.

Schools, Colleges and universities across the valley and in Banihal and Chinab valley of Jammu region remained completely shut and students stayed away from their classes.

Train services between Baramulla and Banihal remained suspended for 55th consecutive day affecting railway travel between the two destinations on the opposite side of Jawahar Tunnel, connecting valley with Jammu division.  (CNS)
