DC Kargil reviews disaster preparedness

KARGIL FEBRUARY 28, 2019:- Deputy Commissioner and CEO, LAHDC, Kargil Baseer-ul-Haq Choudhary who is also the chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Kargil convened a meeting of the heads of various departments to review the overall Disaster Management Plan in the district.


Superintendent of Police Dr Vinod Kumar, Additional Deputy Commissioner Sonam Chosjor, Superintending Engineer PWD Circle Er Sarwan Singh, representatives of Army, GREF, SDRF and the heads of other concerned departments were present in the meeting.


During the course of the meeting, the DC asked all officers of the district to work in close coordination to tackle disaster or emergency situation and to remain active and alert to deal with any type of urgent situation.
The Deputy Commissioner while underlining the need to put in place a comprehensive disaster management plan for the district keeping in view its tough terrain and challenging tasks in terms of disaster instructed the officers to submit department wise inputs so that a plan is given shape to manage and handle any sort of natural or manmade disasters.


The departments were directed to submit the list of inventory available with them both priority and non priority wise so as to obtain a clear cut picture about the availability of resources to deal with disaster situations.
The DC asked the SDRF to conduct the safety audit of vital installations in the district and submit report in this regard to his office at the earliest. He also directed the SDRF to conduct mock drills of disaster management in vulnerable areas in coordination with the DDMA to sensitize people on the importance of disaster preparedness.


The DC also highlighted the need to put in place an effective disaster management plan through an efficient interdepartmental coordination and communication. He also urged officers to maintain close liaison with the public representatives at the Panchayat, Municipal and Council level to effectively deal with disaster situations on ground.

The DC also instructed the officers of Health and Animal Husbandry departments to conduct awareness camps about diseases caused as a result of man animal contact.


The DC informed that the district emergency operating centre at the DDMA office in the district will provide all assistance to the officers to monitor and supervise any emergency situation.
