BANDIPORA, Dec 4: After a gap of two years, the Election Authorities of J&K ordered re-polling for two district development council seats that were earlier cancelled in 2020 during counting.

The elections for Hajin-A and Dragmulla (Kupwara) will be held tomorrow, December 5, from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

“The developmental work for our block has been stuck as we don’t have any DDC candidate from our block. Several villages in our block lack tap water facilities, and we are compelled to fetch dirty water from Jhelum. We hope that after choosing our DDC in our block, he will put these issues in front of the district and higher authorities and our issues will be resolved.” Gh Mohi-ud-din, a local resident of Hajin, added while talking to the Kashmir Despatch.

Earlier DDC polls had been held in Hajin-A on December 19, 2020, which were later cancelled by the Election Commission at the time of counting.

After dropping one candidate from the list, now five candidates are in the fray for the DDC seat held by Hajin-A. One candidate from NC, one from PC, one from BJP, one from Apni Party, and one independent will try their luck for the DDC seat. Sumbal is considered the bastion of NC.

Notably, the election for Hajin-A block had been cancelled at the time of counting when one of the contestants had entered wrong information in a declaration about their citizenship in Form 6 during registration as electors.
