Bandipora, Nov 26 : Ahead of the District Development Council (DDC) elections, the Standard Polling Staff along with election material were airlifted on Thursday to the snow-bound Gurez Valley in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district.
An official told that the Standard Polling Staff along with election material were airlifted to Gurez Valley as the only important road from Bandipora to Gurez valley remained closed today due to accumulation of snow.
DDC elections and Panchayat by-polls will be held in the two blocks in the first phase on November 28 in Gurez, he said, adding that even the weather conditions are not favorable, but the administration has made all the possible arrangements to conduct elections smoothly.
The official said that the authorities have already pressed into service snow clearance machines and cutters to clear the snow and put through the Bandipora-Gurez road.
He also said that yesterday a paramilitary company for election deployment was on its way to Gurez from Bandipora, which was stranded due to snowfall on the way at Trabal and was later sent back to Bandipora—(KNO)
