Residents forced to drink contaminated water Amid Ramadhan, Stages protest

Sopore, May 04: The residents of Sher colony in north Kashmir’s Sopore town on Monday complained that they are being supplied with contaminated water amid this holy month of Ramadan.


Owing to the failure of the Jal Shakti department the residents of the Sher colony in north Kashmir’s Sopore on Monday hit the streets to highlight the crisis in the area. The protesting residents said we are forced to drink contaminated water that comes from the water tank which is very dirty filled with dead birds.


“All we ask for is the supply of clean water, We are forced to drink this dirty water and use it for ablutions during Ramazan the protesting residents told Kashmir Despatch.”


Already we are living in fear and threat due to the COVID-19 now this non-serious of Jal Shakti department adds to our sufferings as we have no option but to drink this dirty water said a female protestor to Kashmir Despatch.


“It is so painful having to drink dirty water from the water tank which is full of dead birds. The worst part is the department hardly bothers to redress the issue said Junaid Ahmad another protestor.


The inhabitants said that we have given up the hope that within days we will have clean running water at our homes. We have suffered for since week, but nothing is being done regarding our situation by the Jal Shakti department.


Meanwhile, the protesting inhabitants demanded authorities to clean this dirty water tank at an earliest so that they could heave a sigh of relief.


An official at Jal Shakti department in Sopore division assured Kashmir Despatch that matter will be resolved at earliest and residents will get clean water. He also said that the department will also initiate an inquiry into this regard to how it had happened.
