Srinagar,Jan 05 ; An interdisciplinary meeting of dermatology specialists and pediatricians was organized at Cutis Institute of Dermatology Hyderpora Srinagar on 1st January 2025.
The Continuing Medical Education (CME) session, entitled Dermopedia Meet, provided in-depth insights into common pediatric skin disorders, the skin microbiome, and the increasing prevalence of eczema among children.
The event brought together some of the foremost experts in the field, including Dr. Imran Majid, Dr Shafat Tak, Dr. Suhail Naik, and Dr. Aqib Zaffer Banday, a renowned pediatric rheumatologist.
The CME opened with a detailed presentation by Dr. Imran Majid, Director Cutis Institute of Dermatology. He welcomed the guests and shared his expertise on the most prevalent skin disorders affecting children today. Dr. Majid also stressed the need for better awareness among pediatricians and dermatologists about common skin conditions, such as atopic dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis and others which form a significant percentage of daily OPD in any hospital or health centre.
Dr Farah Sameem, renowned consultant dermatologist at SKIMS Medical College presented her talk on how neonatal and infant skin differs from adult skin and the challenges faced in taking good care of the infant skin. Dr. Suhail Naik, one of the most well-known pediatricians from the valley, followed with an engaging lecture on skin care, and the hazards of using ointments and creams with harmful ingredients in them. He highlighted the importance of knowing about the preservatives, colorants, and stabilizers used in skin care products which can cause different cancers and neurodevelopmental disorders in later in life. Dr Naik further detailed that it is high time to focus on harmful ingredients and additives used in drugs or food ,as they can cause different behavioral disorders.
Adding another layer of complexity to the conversation, Dr. Aqib, an expert pediatric rheumatologist, shared his knowledge on the complex interactions between genes, environmental factors, and the immunopathology of pediatric skin disorders specifically atopic disorders. His talk also touched upon the emerging field of personalized medicine, which tailors treatment based on individual genetic profiles to ensure more effective and precise therapeutic interventions.
The presentations were followed by an engaging discussion in which all the faculty and delegates participated enthusiastically. Participants were able to engage with experts, ask questions, and gain valuable insights into the increasing incidence of atopic disorders in children and the new treatment options and routine care in such patients The CME session provided an opportunity for networking among peers, promoting collaboration in research and clinical practice.
