DGP: Anti-Militancy ops were hit by ban on prepaid phones

Date:

“The absence of prepaid mobile connectivity in the Valley had a negative impact on the anti-militancy operations. However, since the prepaid services have been restored, these operations have been resumed too,” Dilbag Singh, DGP, J&K, told media persons here

The J&K Police feel that now people inform them and security forces in time about the presence of militants in a particular area.

“The restoration of prepaid mobile services is a positive development. Information flow is there when you have connectivity and it’s a fact that people who want to inform the police can now do the same,” Dilbag said during his visit to Doda to review the overall security ahead of the Republic Day celebrations.

He said the restoration of prepaid phone services had also brought relief for the public and it would help them in their businesses as well.

Dilbag, along with Jammu zone IG Mukesh Singh, held a meeting with senior police officers here and expressed satisfaction over the arrangements put in place.

When asked about the presence of militants in the twin districts, he said nine ultras were there in Kishtwar last year, but after eliminating three of them in Batote last year and arresting two others, the number has come down to three. “In Doda, Haroon was killed recently and now only one Kashmiri militant is active in the district.” —TNS
