SRINAGAR, Feb 7: A family in Pattan tehsil on Friday alleged that a doctor denied treatment to one of their members in district hospital Baramulla and instead insisted her to visit private clinic.

Talking to Kashmir Despatch the attendant of the patient said that on February 3, his sister was referred to district hospital Baramulla where Dr Muneeba directed them to admit the patient in the hospital.

“The doctor advised us to get our patient Asiya Nabi wife of Muzamil Hassan resident of Wanigam Pattan admitted in the hospital,” Asiya’s brother told Kashmir Despatch.

However, after spending a night at hospital , Dr Humaira on next day insisted them to visit her private clinic for treatment instead of treating the patient in government hospital, he added.

The family alleged that after refusing the treatment she misbehaved with them and also torn the medical prescriptions into pieces.

The family further added that keeping the patient’s condition into mind , they rushed to a nearby private hospital St Joseph’s where the patient delivered a baby.

On Friday this family and its relatives staged a protest demonstration against the hospital authorities and demanded strict action against Dr Humaira.

The protesting family while demanding strict action against Dr Humaira alleged that this is a normal trend in Goverment run hospitals in Baramulla.

“This trend should be stopped immediately so that the general public does not suffer or does not face more inconvenience in government run hospitals,” the protesters demanded.

Later the protesting family forwarded a written complaint to the higher authorities of health department and station house officer Baramulla seeking stern action against the doctor.

Chief Medical Officer Baramulla Dr Deeba Khan when contacted, told Kashmir Despatch that she was not authorized to comment on this issue. “It is better to share this issue with the principal  Govt, Medical College Baramulla,” she said.

When contacted principal of Government Medical College Baramulla Dr Abdul Hameed said: “We have received a complaint and inquiry in this matter has been started.”

Despite repeated attempts Dr Humiara was not available for her comments.

Meanwhile, Additional Deputy Commissioner Baramulla Mohamamd Ahsan told Kashmir Despatch that matter will be taken up with the hospital authorities and a stern action will be taken against the erring doctors if found guilty.
