SRINAGAR, Oct 22: The two-day Delhi Public School Model United Nations (DPSMUN) 2025 concluded on a highly successful note at Delhi Public School, Srinagar, bringing together over 200 student delegates from leading schools across the Valley. The event, marked by intense debates, diplomacy, and deliberations, once again highlighted the school’s commitment to promoting global awareness, leadership, and critical thinking among young minds.
The Model United Nations (MUN) is a simulation of the United Nations, where students assume the roles of diplomats representing various countries and organisations. Through structured debate, negotiation, and problem-solving sessions, participants explore and address pressing global and regional issues. The initiative helps them sharpen their communication, research, teamwork, and leadership skills — qualities essential for navigating the complexities of a fast-changing world.
This year’s DPSMUN 2025 featured six intellectually rich committees — the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (UNCSW), International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ), Lok Sabha, Jammu & Kashmir Political Parties Meet (JKPPM), and the AI Advisory Board. Delegates engaged in in-depth discussions on issues ranging from human rights violations, gender parity, and press freedom to political developments in Jammu and Kashmir and ethical regulation of artificial intelligence.
Throughout the two days, the conference witnessed spirited debates, persuasive arguments, and exemplary teamwork as students passionately defended their stances while upholding the essence of diplomacy and decorum. The deliberations not only tested their analytical and public speaking abilities but also encouraged empathy and collaboration — hallmarks of true international dialogue.
The event was guided by an experienced Executive Board and a dedicated Secretariat that ensured smooth conduct across all sessions. The Closing Ceremony marked the culmination of the conference with celebrations of achievement and recognition. Awards for Best Delegate, High Commendation, and Special Mention were presented to outstanding participants across all committees. Members of the Executive Board and Secretariat were also felicitated for their leadership, discipline, and hard work in executing an event of such scale with precision and professionalism.
Principal Shafaq Afshan lauded the efforts of the students and faculty, remarking that DPSMUN had become an integral part of the school’s mission to nurture responsible, articulate, and globally aware individuals. “Through platforms like these, our students learn the values of cooperation, dialogue, and empathy — essential for shaping tomorrow’s leaders,” she said.
Arusa Rasool, Academic In-Charge (Senior Wing), commended the meticulous organisation of the event and praised the enthusiasm of the Secretariat and Organising Committee. She noted that DPSMUN exemplifies how teamwork and vision can create transformative learning experiences beyond traditional classrooms.
Chairman Vijay Dhar appreciated the initiative, describing DPSMUN as a platform where intellect meets purpose. “Such forums empower our youth to understand and address the world’s challenges through empathy, awareness, and informed debate. I am proud of how DPS Srinagar continues to uphold this tradition of intellectual and moral excellence,” he said.
With its perfect blend of intellectual vigour, creativity, and youthful passion, DPSMUN 2025 reaffirmed Delhi Public School Srinagar’s enduring legacy of cultivating leadership and global citizenship among students. The event stood out as a beacon of how education, when blended with purpose and dialogue, can prepare future generations to lead with understanding and compassion.
