Class XII students blend adventure, culture, self-discovery in Ladakh journey

SRINAGAR, Jul 15: In a memorable expedition that combined adventure, learning, and personal growth, 40 Class XII students of Delhi Public School (DPS), Srinagar, recently explored the mesmerizing terrains of Ladakh — from the lush expanses of Suru Valley to the majestic heights of Zanskar. The enriching journey, held from July 3rd to 8th, 2025, was guided by four dedicated faculty members — Mr. Basharat, Ms. Abraq, Ms. Ummat, and Mr. Mudasir — along with non-teaching staff members Mr. Manoj and Mr. Abrar, and supported by five experienced drivers.
The expedition kicked off at Suru Valley in Panikhar, a gateway to the greater Himalayan ranges. Students were greeted by the tranquil landscapes and snow-draped peaks of the region, forming an instant bond with nature’s grandeur. This initial leg of the journey set the emotional and environmental tone for the adventure that lay ahead.
From Suru, the group ventured into the rugged and spellbinding Zanskar Valley, a region renowned not only for its geographical isolation but also for its deep cultural and spiritual significance. The students had a hands-on learning experience through visits to several iconic and meaningful sites:
- Zangla Palace: Perched atop a hill, the historic fortress gave the group a glimpse into Zanskar’s regal past and offered sweeping panoramic views of the valley.
- Karsha Monastery: The largest and most spiritually significant monastery in Zanskar, Karsha provided students with a meditative and cultural experience, allowing them to witness age-old Buddhist rituals and architecture.
- Sheela Village & Waterfall: A lesser-known but breathtaking destination, where students reveled in the untouched beauty of nature, spending moments in peace, reflection, and joy.
- Sani Lake: Nestled amidst dramatic landscapes, the calm waters of Sani Lake served as a perfect setting for group bonding and individual introspection.
In addition to sightseeing, students participated in treks, community interactions, and cultural exchanges with locals, offering them a chance to witness Ladakhi life firsthand and understand its resilience and simplicity. The physical demands of the journey tested their stamina, while the immersive experiences nurtured empathy, respect for diverse cultures, and a spirit of exploration.
For many, the trip became a turning point — a transformative journey of self-discovery that fostered confidence, companionship, and a renewed appreciation for the environment and heritage.
DPS Srinagar has long championed experiential learning as a core pillar of its educational philosophy. “This Ladakh expedition wasn’t just about travel; it was about shaping character, fostering sensitivity, and building leadership,” said one of the accompanying teachers. The school continues to invest in such opportunities that promote holistic development and prepare students to become informed and empathetic global citizens.
As the students returned from the mystical mountains of Zanskar, they brought back not only photographs and souvenirs but stories of courage, awe, and lifelong friendships — proof that the best classrooms are often found beyond four walls.
