Draconian AFSPA source of every killing in Kashmir, Says Kamal

Srinagar, Dec 20, : Lauding former Indian Supreme Court luminary Justice Markand Katju for his anti-Army remarks over Kashmir killings, National Conference senior leader Dr Sheikh Mustafa Kamal Thursday said that draconian Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) is the source of every killing in Kashmir that is taking place at the hands of Indian Army.

Kamal said Justice Katju should be hailed for equating the Pulwama tragedy to Jalianwallah Bagh massacre. “Army will kill people if you engage them in civilian works. Atal Bihari Vajpayee in 2001 had maintained that army is not for meant for civilian works. Army is right now involved in civilian dealings and that is why they kill people at will,” he said.

“Draconian AFSPA is the main reason for massacres in Kashmir. Army is not accountable under this draconian Act. All secular political parties of India should come together and impress upon Government of India to repeal this black law in Kashmir,” Kamal said adding that blood of Kashmiris have become so cheap.

Dr Sheikh Mustafa Kamal said that Kashmir is the only place where instead of water canons bullets and pellets are showered on people with a sole purpose to kill them. “We won’t act as mute spectators now. Army can’t resort to killings and vandalization. Time has come we act and demand stern punishment for those involved in kill and loot,” he said. (CNS)
