GANDERBAL : Police on Tuesday said it has arrested a drug peddler in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal village.
Police in a statement said, due to sustained efforts to push the nails into the coffin of drug mafia by Police in Saffapora Ganderbal one more dreaded and infamous drug peddler from Hakabara Hajin, has been arrested during a snap naka at Barkati Mohalla Saffapora.
Details reveal that a Police party headed by SI Sajjad Khanday, SHO PS Saffapora, under the close supervision of Shri S M Shafi-JKPS, Dy SP Ganderbal and under the able and effective patronage of SSP Ganderbal Shri Khalil Ahmad Poswal- JKPS, laid a series of short duration nakas in and around the Saffapora Town to nab the culprits roaming in the area.
During the course of naka, police sighted a person at Barkati Mohalla Saffapora, near naka point, who was in a bid to run away from the spot on sighting police unexpectedly, but due to the swift action of the deployed Police party, the suspected person was apprehended tactfully.
On apprehension the individual namely Mudassir Ahmad Wagay S/O Gh Mohammad Wagay R/O Hakbara Hajin, was found in the possession of NDPS contraband. Subsequently the person was arrested under the specific legal provisions of NDPS Act and a case under FIR No 22/2020, U/S 8/22 NDPS Act. has been lodged at Police station Saffapora for further and thorough investigation into the matter.
Locals hailed the action of police and condemned the drug menace for it’s destructive implications.
Social and religious organisations have been expressing their concerns over the increasing tendencies of drug mafia in the society and they have been showing their concerns over the involvement of youth in the drug nexus.
Police assured all those organisations with regard to the stringent actions against the drug peddlers and their supporters.
This arrest makes 11th arrest of drug peddlers in the last two months in the area.
Efforts shall continue relentlessly to nab all the culprits involved in drug nexus. The vow is “Fight till Finish”.
