Srinagar, August 18: The Ecotourism Association of Kashmir has urged the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor, Shri Manoj Sinha Ji, to accord greater priority to the protection of Kashmir’s fragile environment and ecologically sensitive tourist destinations.
During a meeting with the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor, President Sameer Baktoo highlighted the urgent need to strengthen environmental safeguards, particularly in hill stations and other sensitive areas already declared No-Polythene Zones. He stressed that these provisions must be implemented strictly and effectively.
Baktoo emphasised that Kashmir’s tourism is inseparably linked with its natural beauty and ecological wealth, and that growing tourist pressure, plastic pollution, unplanned development and climate change require a stronger focus on sustainable and responsible tourism practices.
The Association called for greater coordination between the Government, tourism stakeholders and local communities to protect Kashmir’s mountains, forests, water bodies and fragile landscapes.
“Kashmir’s environment is the foundation of Kashmir tourism. Protecting it is not only an environmental responsibility but also essential for safeguarding the future of our tourism industry and the livelihoods dependent on it,” said Sameer Baktoo.
The Association reiterated its commitment to promoting responsible tourism, environmental awareness and sustainable tourism practices across Jammu and Kashmir.
