Srinagar, Mar 08 : Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), senior leader, Khursheed Alam on Monday asserted that Party President and former Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti has been called for routine questioning to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) office in New Delhi on 15th of this month.
Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a zone level convention at party headquarters Maulana Azad Road, Alam said there are no specific allegations leveled against Mehbooba by the investigating agency.
“She has been called for routine questioning as there are no specific allegations leveled against Mehbooba Mufti by the Enforcement Directorate, hence no one knows what exactly has prompted ED to summon our president,” he added.
The PDP leader said Mehbooba and her late father and former chief minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed have a clean record hence such tactics won’t deter the party’s resolve in any way.
He said Mehbooba’s honesty was proved in 2018 when she was declared as the poorest women CM of India. Alam said the centre’s approach towards its political opponents in Jammu and Kashmir will in no way prove beneficial for the democracy.
“We challenge if it’s proved that the Mufti family has bought a piece of land by illegal means. Implicating Mehbooba Ji in false and fabricated cases like money laundering won’t help the centre in any way,” he added.
He also said that the centre is hell-bent upon suppressing regional political parties of Jammu and Kashmir which he said will damage the democratic setup of India—(KNO)
