Srinagar Mar 22: The 270 Km Srinagar- Jammu National Highway remained closed for maintenance on the second consecutive day as the administration had decided to carry out maintenance of the damaged stretch by landslides and shooting stones, which had disrupted the traffic and leftover hundreds of vehicles stranded.
The National Highway which connects Kashmir with the rest of the world has witnessed frequently landslides from the last three months, by putting the on way passengers in a state of distress.
Meanwhile, the authorities a few days back had cleared the road and allowed the Vehicles to move from Jammu to Srinagar, however, on Saturday late evening the authorities didn’t allow any vehicle to move beyond because of maintenance of damaged stretch by the landslides and shooting stones.
A Traffic Police official deputed at Ramban Traffic control Unit told Kashmir Despatch that ” The Srinagar-Jammu Highway is going through the maintenance process at various locations as there was severe damage due to frequent landslides. Till this evening the highway will get restored but only for essential services”.he said.
However, the fresh rains and shooting stones from Banihal to Udhampur had left hundreds of commuters stranded.
