NEW DELHI, Oct 20: Bringing laurels to the Jammu and Kashmir education department, the Government Higher Secondary School Kreeri Baramulla has been selected as one among the Top-10 schools for 2022 Youth Ideathon, the final competition of which was held at IIT Delhi on Thursday.

The school was represented by a team of young innovators with four Science students mentored by their Computer Science Teacher Javid Ahmad Dar. The Team of these four students had earlier participated at the state level competition with their novel idea and were selected  among top 100 for this Year National Level Competition in which around 91000 students from 31000 schools, (Govt and private) from across different states and UTs participated and submitted their projects for approval.

However, only 10 Schools had to be recognized for the finals of the competition in which Government Higher Secondary School Kreeri district Baramulla is the only educational institution from J&K UT which has been selected.

An incubation amount of Rs 100000 has been approved for the school for further development of the project (Apple Grading System) designed by the students of the institution.

Talking to the Kashmir Despatch from Delhi, these students said the local apple farmers in Kashmir face problems in grading and marketing phase of the apple production.

“Local apples tend to lose their market value when competing with imported apples in terms of grade shine and size. Apples are not washed for dust, insects and pesticides because of high labour cost which ultimately affects the marketing value of the apples. So our students devised the solution to develop a low cost portable Grading System which will work in four phases: Wash section, dryer section, wiping section and grading section,” Javid Ahmad Dar, the mentor of these students told Kashmir Despatch from Delhi.
