In a world that often overlooks the elderly, Abdul Razak Guru and his wife, an elderly couple in Sopore have defied stereotypes and proven that age should never hinder one’s ability to make a difference and embark on new ventures.

The elderly couple from Sopore town has exemplified resilience and resourcefulness by establishing a successful lassi-selling venture and can be seen often outside Khushal Sports Stadium in Sopore.

Abdul Razak, in an interview with The Kashmir Despatch , revealed that his association with the milk business dates back to his childhood.

People from the surrounding area have long relied on him for milk and other related products.

Recognizing an opportunity to address their financial concerns, Razak and his wife ventured into selling milk and lassi at playgrounds four years ago.

“For the past four years, we have been visiting playgrounds to sell milk and lassi for the players in the ground. We aren’t providing the athletes with sugary drinks but pure milk and lassi to keep them hydrated and healthy,” Razak Guru added.

Their daily routine involves collecting milk from the village early in the morning and later visiting Khushal Sports Stadium in the evening to sell lassi. The response from customers has been positive, providing Abdul Razak the means to fulfill his financial commitments successfully.

Despite their advanced age, the couple radiates energy and enthusiasm, greeting their customers with warm smiles and engaging conversations while serving lassi at Khushal Sports Stadium.

Grateful for the overwhelming support they have received, the couple takes pride in achieving financial self-sufficiency.

“The income generated from the lassi business enables us to meet our daily expenses,” he said.

Demonstrating their determination to thrive independently during their golden years, Razak and his wife have emerged as beacons of hope, instilling inspiration amongst their peers and encouraging others to channel their passions into viable means of livelihood.
