SRINAGAR, May 04: Breaking the long lull of political activity in the otherwise restive pockets of downtown Srinagar, pro-election slogans echoed through the jam-packed alleys, marking a notable departure from the silence that followed the abrogation of Article 370 on August 5, 2019.

National Conference patriarch Dr. Farooq Abdullah spearheaded this resurgence, addressing an electrified crowd at an election rally in the Khanyar area, earlier known for stone-pelting incidents. Dr. Farooq urged the people to fight for the safeguard of Kashmir’s identity, and emphasized the importance of their votes in shaping the region’s future.

“Until you do not see the light and sound from the EVM, do not leave the polling booth,” Dr.Farooq cautioned as he highlighted concerns about electoral integrity. He warned against the influence of rival party agents who might attempt to sway voters with monetary incentives, reminding them of their accountability to Allah on the day of judgment.

Other NC leaders also took part in the function including Party’s LS candidate Ruhullah Mehdi and Shameema Firdous.

Meanwhile, Apni Party President Altaf Bukhari made his presence felt in the downtown areas, offering a message of hope and change to the residents. Addressing reporters, Bukhari while addressing people in Fateh Kadal area emphasized the transformation taking place in areas once branded as “anti-national”, assuring the populace that their votes would indeed make a difference.

“I assure them that change is near, and their vote will be pivotal,” Bukhari declared, echoing the sentiments of optimism and political participation.

Bukhari also welcomed the statement issued by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, leader of the Hurriyat Conference, affirming that votes should not be misconstrued as a referendum and that boycott calls hold little relevance on the ground.
