Electricity Lights Up Hope: 75-Year Darkness Ends in Remote Villages along LoC

SRINAGAR, Jan 3: In a historic moment, the residents of Kundiyan and Patroo villages in the Keran area of Kupwara district experienced the joy of electricity for the first time in 75 years. Inaugrated by Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, residents expressed gratitude to the LG Manoj Sinha administration as two 250 KV Sub Stations under the Samirdh Seema Yojan brought grid connectivity to the once-isolated communities.

The electrification project, completed in a record two months by KPDCL Electric Division Kupwara, left the villagers ecstatic. Cheers and jubilation filled the air as lights illuminated their houses, marking the end of decades-long wait.

DC Kupwara, Ms Ayushi Sudan, congratulated the people and local PRIs during her visit to Kundian. She emphasized the collaborative effort involving officers, linemen, and contractors to achieve this milestone. The electrification project, approved and allocated just two months ago, stands as a testament to the transformation at the grassroots level.

The Deputy Commissioner also announced further developments, stating that the road stretch from Dutt Bridge to Keran has been handed over to Beacon for improvement. By the year’s end, all villages in Keran are expected to be saturated with BSNL mobile network coverage, with plans to involve Airtel and Jio for enhanced cell phone connectivity.

Expressing gratitude, Mohammad Syed Khoja, Chairperson, BDC Keran, credited the LG-led administration for turning dreams into reality. He highlighted the significant improvement from a decade-old Diesel Generator Set to reliable electricity, enabling children to study under electric lights.

acknowledging that the hard work of the LG-led administration has finally brought electric supply to their remote villages. The occasion was attended by key figures, including Lt. Col Harshad Saini, Commanding Officer 6 RR, OC Beacon V.V Sharma, Tehsildar Keran Omer Bashir, EXen PDD Javid Ahmad, AEE PDD Mr. Latief, AEE STD Sohail Nisar, and various PRIs.

As development continues to reach far-flung areas of the UT, the Viksit Bharat Yatra, with over 3 million participants from JK, exemplifies the UT’s commitment to the welfare of its citizens. The journey toward progress and prosperity in the UT continues, guided by a prioritized focus on the well-being of the common citizen.
