Elements involved in targeted killings frustrated by successful conduct of G20 Summit: DGP

Date:

Srinagar, May 31 : Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbagh Singh on Wednesday said that elements supported by Pakistan are involved in the targeted killings as they are frustrated due to the successful conduct of G20 Summit in the Kashmir Valley.

He urged people to come forward in finding out elements in such activities and help the police and other security agencies to bring them to task.

In an exclusive interview to Kashmir News Service (KNS), the DGP said that the militancy is on death bed in Jammu and Kashmir and the targeted killing of Deepu Kumar of Udhampur in Anantnag is an inhumane act and that Pakistan and its supporters are considering Jammu residents in Kashmir as settlers which is ridiculous.

“This theory has been absolutely rejected by people of J&K and such anti-peace elements have got frustrated. I appeal to people of J&K to come forward and find out such elements and play their role in taking them to task. It is the people who have to play their role in making J&K militancy-free,” he said.

The DGP while commenting on G20 Summit said that it was historical event in J&K and there was a high-level participation from guests as well as people in the event. “It was hectic for security apparatus to ensure incident-free event. I want to make it clear that in such events people have to face inconvenience but our priority was to make the event more people-friendly instead of a government function,” he added.

He said that during G20 Summit everything was going on normal. “At Pahalgam, Sonamarg and other tourist destinations the footfall of tourists was as per routine. We ensured that no civilian should suffer any sort of inconvenience during the Summit. It was successful event and I congratulate the people, trade and social bodies for their cooperation who welcomed the event and realised that G20 will change the future of their young generations,” he said.

The DGP added that with the participation in the Summit, people of J&K categorically rejected the Pakistan’s fake narrative about Kashmir.

“Pakistan used baseless narrative on social media to sabotage G20 Summit and their agencies even issued threats but despite all that we conducted the event in a smooth manner. The way people participated and cooperated in this historical event is praiseworthy,” he added.

Responding to a query on Amarnath Yatra, the DGP said that all arrangements required for the smooth conduct of Yatra will be put in place.

He also praised people’s support in the conduct of the Yatra in the past years. “Even though security agencies are pressing their efforts to make the Yatra incident-free, but there is a great role of local population who have always been supportive,” DGP added.

On police-public relationship, the DGP said this front has been strengthened most with the active participation of the people.

“A day ago people lodged a complaint against a DDC member wherein police have taken cognizance and lodged FIR in this regard. We will not allow anybody to take law in their hands. Police will take action wherever it is required,” he said.

On being asked why J&K police didn’t ensure peaceful atmosphere in the past with the same efforts as is being done today, the DGP said that Police have been people-friendly since its inception and is a part and parcel of the society.

“Till date our youth who got swayed away due to fake narrative spread by Pakistan, were involved in stone-pelting. They killed their own people on the directions of Pakistan but today situation is completely different. I congratulate our youth who have realized their duty toward nation building. If there is normalcy in J&K today, the credit goes to our youth. They are interested in making their future bright and are qualifying All India Service Exams”.

He added that despite all these conspiracies being hatched from across the borders, people have come to know their trade and other means of livelihood have suffered a huge brunt due to strikes.

The DGP said that Pakistan is supplying more drugs in Kashmir to spoil the future of the youth. “Pakistan has made our young generation target as it came to know that they have shunned the path of gun and started to make their future by embracing mainstream,” he said. (KNS)
