Encounter breaks out in Kulgam village

Srinagar, February 24: A gunfight broke out between militants and goverment forces in Turigam area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Sunday afternoon.

Reports reaching GNS said that a joint team of army, CRPF and SOG launched cordon and search operation in Turigam village.

A senior Police official told GNS that the cordon was laid in the area following credible inputs about the presence of some Jaish-e- Mohammad militants in the area.

He said that soon after the joint team of forces fired some warning shots towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants believed to be two in number including a top commander opened fire triggering of an encounter.

When reports last came in the intermittent exchange of firing was going on.(GNS)
