Bandipora, Sep 27 :  As the seasons shift in Gurez Valley of North Kashmir’s Bandipora district, the charm of autumn is drawing an increasing number of tourists to the picturesque border valley.

This transition, marked by golden landscapes and crisp mountain air, is captivating both visitors and locals, making Gurez a popular destination even beyond the peak summer season.

Gurez has long been a hidden gem in Jammu and Kashmir, nestled among the towering Himalayan peaks in Bandipora. It has been a favourite destination for trekkers, nature enthusiasts, and those seeking a peaceful escape. However, what’s different this year is the continuous stream of tourists, defying the usual decline in numbers during the autumn months.

Fida Hussain, a local resident, told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that Autumn has a special beauty here, and this year, it feels like the whole world has discovered it.

The numbers tell an impressive story. In contrast to previous years, where Gurez would typically receive around 5,000 tourists annually, this year’s count has already surpassed 50,000.

This increase is credited not only to the valley’s natural beauty but also to improved infrastructure and tourism initiatives by District administration Bandipora

Syed Ahmed, a local shop owner, said that the influx of tourists brings economic opportunities for locals. Many have started offering homestays to accommodate the growing number of visitors thereby contributing to the valley’s prosperity.

The local administration has actively promoted Gurez as a year-round destination by organizing cultural festivals, treks, and adventure activities to enhance its appeal.

The strategic approach has clearly paid off and has attracted adventure enthusiasts, nature lovers, and those seeking the tranquillity that Gurez offers offers—(KNO)
