Excise Commissioner Vaibhav Kohli’s Initiative Promotes Sports as a Powerful Tool Against Substance Abuse; ETO Shamas-ud-Duha Supervises Event, Excise Officer Majid Majeed Inaugurates Tournament
Bijbehara, July 29: In a major initiative aimed at promoting sportsmanship, youth empowerment, and a drug-free society, the Excise Department APSK Range on Tuesday organised a football tournament at Bijbehara under the directions of Excise Commissioner Vaibhav Kohli.
The sporting event, organised as part of the department’s sustained campaign to encourage healthy lifestyles among youth and steer them away from the menace of drug addiction, was conducted under the overall supervision of Excise and Taxation Officer (ETO) APSK, Shamas-ud-Duha, who ensured the smooth and successful conduct of the tournament.
The tournament was formally inaugurated by Excise Officer Majid Majeed, who kicked off the opening fixture between Bijbehara Football Club and Real Anantnag FC. The inaugural match witnessed an impressive turnout of football enthusiasts, local residents, Excise Department officials, and players, creating an energetic and competitive sporting atmosphere.
Speaking on the occasion, officials said the tournament reflects the vision of Excise Commissioner Vaibhav Kohli to channel the energy of young people towards constructive activities through sports while spreading awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse. They said football and other sporting activities play a crucial role in building discipline, teamwork, confidence, and a sense of responsibility among youth.
Officials further said the tournament not only provides an opportunity for emerging football talent to showcase their skills but also serves as a platform to strengthen public awareness against substance abuse and encourage community participation in creating a healthier and safer society.
The Excise Department reiterated its commitment to organising more such sporting events and youth outreach programmes across Jammu and Kashmir under the leadership of Excise Commissioner Vaibhav Kohli. The department said these initiatives are aimed at motivating young people to adopt a healthy lifestyle, actively participate in sports, and contribute towards building a progressive, drug-free society.
