The Department of Computer Applications at Government College for Women, M.A. Road, Srinagar, has successfully launched a transformative one-week bootcamp on ‘Artificial Intelligence in Drones: The Autonomous Technology.’ This initiative, conducted in collaboration with NIELIT Srinagar, is part of the SwaYaan project and is funded by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India.
The bootcamp kicked off with an inspiring inaugural function, featuring insightful talks from NIELIT’s Joint Directors, Dr. Umer Iqbal and Dr. Fayaz Ahmad Fayaz. They highlighted the revolutionary potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in drone technology, discussing its wide-ranging applications in agriculture, disaster management, logistics, and surveillance. Participants were excited to hear about the burgeoning career opportunities in this innovative field.
Principal Prof. (Dr.) Yasmeen Farooq emphasized the importance of advanced skill-based education in today’s technology-driven world. She noted that the technical sessions throughout the week will encompass a broad range of both foundational and advanced topics. The bootcamp aims to bridge the gap between theoretical learning and practical application, offering students a unique platform to dive deep into the integration of AI and autonomous drone systems through expert-led sessions, hands-on experiences, and live demonstrations.
In addition, Prof. Rouf Ali, Head of the Department of Computer Applications, provided an overview of the workshop’s framework and covered the hands-on sessions and thematic areas for the week, expressing gratitude for the collaborative efforts behind this initiative.
The proceedings of the inaugural session, conducted by Dr. Junaid Latief, stressed the necessity for students to develop practical, future-ready skills, as AI-powered drones continue to reshape operational landscapes across various industries.
