Family accuses SKIMS Soura of missmatched blood transfusion on patient

Srinagar, April 02: The people including attendants of a patient 23 year old zeenat Akram daughter of Mohammad Akram of Bemina Srinagar on Monday held a protest against the Hospital Administration of SKIMS Soura for alleged negligence.

“She was feeling a sick. We went to SKIMS Soura were doctors said she needs urgent 2 pints of blood. After giving blood she was stable and was in a good condition. Today she felt unstable and again we forward her to SKIMS Soura, where doctors said she needs another one pint of Blood,” said a family member of patient.

“Blood was given by doctors from Blood Bank SKIMS and that blood was from another blood group, totally mismatching with the patient’s blood and patient is on ventilator, ”she is almost 90% dead declared by the doctor himself. One of the doctors verbally speaking with the kins admitted that the blood mismatching”. Said Umar Akram brother of patient.

The family has filed a complaint in Police Station, Soura asking the police to take strict actions against the hospital staff.

Director SKIMS, Dr Omar Javed Shah has ordered internal inquiry in the case. The probe panel is headed by Medical Superintendent, Dr Farooq A Jan.
The Medical Superintendent, Dr Farooq A Jan refuted the allegations by the family. However, he didn’t deny the ‘anaphylactic reaction’ due to some preservative or reagents in blood or fluids.
