Srinagar, June 24 ; Scores of farmers in north Kashmir’s Zaingeer belt on Wednesday staged a protest demonstration against the lnadequate water supply in canals.
Reports reaching Kashmir Despatch said scores of Farmers on Wednesday blocked Sopore-Bandipora highway at Hathlangoo to register their protest against govt. as well as local authorities of Jal Shakti department.
The protesting farmers talking with Kashmir Despatch Correspondent Peerzada Tahir said the standing crop of the farmers was being destroyed due to lack of water for irrigation in Zaingeer belt especially in Hathlangoo village. They said lack of water in canals have badly affected their agriculture process. They farmers appealed Jal Shakti department for early redressal sothat they ll get a sign of relief.
Lala a local resident told this Correspondent that authoritie’s neglect attitude towards the farmers has added more sufferings, he said despite repeated attempts the authorities are not responding them to redress the issue.
The protest was ended on peaceful note after a team of police reached the spot and assured farmers that matter will be taken to higher authorities of Jak Sakti department for the redressal at earliest.
Meanwhile a senior official at Jal Shakti department assured Kashmir Despatch that within 24 hours matter will be resolved and farmers will get a sign of relief.
