Srinagar, May 3 : National Conference President Dr. Farooq Abdullah on Saturday called for a large-scale return of tourists to Jammu and Kashmir, saying their presence would be a “strong slap on the face of terrorists” and a testament to the region’s resilience.
Speaking to news agency, at a condolence gathering at Pahalgam, Dr. Abdullah offered solidarity with the bereaved family and praised the unity of the people in the face of adversity.
“Their faces will be blackened by the unity and resilience of the people,” he said, referring to those who attempt to disrupt peace in the region.
He reiterated that the people of Jammu and Kashmir are not afraid. “We are not going to cower in fear. Jammu and Kashmir is ours, and we will cherish and build this beautiful land that Allah has given us,” he said.
Dr. Abdullah supported the local demand to rename the Higher Secondary School after the deceased and assured the gathering that the party would present the request to the administration.
“Insha’Allah, we will take this to the government, and the school will not only be renamed but developed further,” he said.
Calling on people across Jammu and Kashmir to unite, he urged greater public participation in honoring the memory of the deceased. “Let the enemies of peace see our resolve. We will not step back.”
Dr. Abdullah also stressed the importance of developing neglected areas, expressing hope that the government and local representatives would work toward comprehensive progress in the region. (KNS)
