BJP Kisan Morcha leader outlines Panch Parivartan as a roadmap for a stronger society

SRINAGAR, Aug 13: Emphasising that lasting social change begins with transformation at the individual level, State General Secretary of Kisan Morcha, BJP J&K, Arshad Bhat called for a collective movement rooted in five fundamental principles—social harmony, family awakening, environmental protection, self-reliance and civic duties.
Addressing a gathering held under the leadership of BJP General Secretary Ashok Koul and MoS and Chairperson of J&K Waqf Board, Dr Darakhshan Andrabi, Bhat said that societies could not transform merely through institutional interventions or government initiatives unless individuals were prepared to take responsibility for bringing change into their own lives.
He placed particular emphasis on the concept of ‘Panch Parivartan’, describing the five principles as interconnected pillars capable of creating a more cohesive, responsible and self-sustaining society.
Bhat said social harmony must form the foundation of any meaningful transformation. According to him, a progressive society is one where people respect one another, rise above social divisions and work collectively for the larger common good. He stressed the importance of strengthening bonds within communities and fostering an atmosphere of mutual trust, cooperation and respect.
The second principle, family awakening, he said, was equally important as the family remains the first institution where values, discipline and social responsibility are learned. Bhat underlined the need for families to devote greater attention to children, their education, character-building and responsible use of technology, while nurturing values that strengthen their connection with society.
On environmental protection, Bhat called for a change in everyday habits and greater individual responsibility towards nature. He stressed that environmental conservation could not remain confined to government programmes or institutional campaigns, but must become part of people’s daily lives.
He advocated responsible consumption, protection of natural resources, cleanliness and greater public participation in environmental conservation. Small individual actions, he said, could collectively produce a significant impact on the environment.
The fourth pillar of Panch Parivartan is self-reliance, which Bhat linked with both individual capability and the broader economic strength of society. He encouraged people, particularly young people, to develop skills, explore entrepreneurship and contribute productively to the local economy rather than remaining dependent solely on conventional avenues of employment.
He said self-reliance should be viewed not merely in economic terms but as a broader approach to developing confidence, skills, initiative and the ability to find solutions to challenges within society.
The fifth principle, civic duties, formed an essential component of Bhat’s message. He said citizens must recognise that rights and responsibilities go hand in hand. Respect for public spaces, adherence to laws, cleanliness, protection of public property, responsible use of resources and active participation in community affairs were among the responsibilities that could strengthen civic life.
Bhat stressed that people often expect governments and institutions to solve every social problem, while overlooking their own role in addressing issues around them. A genuine transformation, he said, would occur when citizens began seeing themselves as active participants rather than passive recipients.
He described individual transformation as the starting point of social transformation, arguing that a change in personal conduct, family values and community engagement could gradually influence society at a much larger scale.
The interaction brought together representatives from different sections of society, including socio-religious leaders, social activists, members of the business fraternity, students and other key stakeholders. The participation of diverse sections, speakers said, reflected the importance of involving the entire community in the process of social change.
The central message emerging from the discussion was that social transformation cannot be achieved through one institution, organisation or section alone. It requires sustained participation from individuals, families, community leaders, businesses, students and civil society.
Bhat’s emphasis on Panch Parivartan presented the five principles as mutually reinforcing. Social harmony can strengthen communities; awakened families can nurture responsible citizens; environmental consciousness can protect shared resources; self-reliance can create economic confidence; and civic responsibility can make communities more disciplined and participatory.
The gathering thus focused on the idea that social transformation is not a distant institutional objective but a process that begins with everyday choices made by individuals.
Bhat’s address called for turning these principles into practical action, with the larger objective of creating a society that is harmonious, environmentally conscious, self-reliant and deeply aware of its civic responsibilities.
