Srinagar, June 21: As armed forces personnel continue to serve in some of the country’s most challenging terrains, yoga is increasingly being recognised as an effective tool to combat stress, sleep deprivation and mental fatigue among troops stationed in Jammu and Kashmir.
Armed forces personnel deployed across the Valley say yoga has become an integral part of their daily routine, helping them remain physically fit and mentally resilient while operating in high-pressure environments.
From early morning breathing exercises to meditation sessions, troops regularly engage in yoga practices aimed at improving concentration, reducing anxiety and maintaining emotional balance.
Security personnel deployed along borders and in counter-insurgency operations often spend months away from their families, working under intense pressure and maintaining constant vigilance. Studies conducted on security forces have shown that regular yoga practice improves sleep quality, enhances alertness and helps personnel manage stress more effectively.
Speaking to the media on the sidelines of International Yoga Day celebrations, a CRPF soldier said, “Yoga has become a part of our everyday life. It keeps us mentally and emotionally fit and helps us stay focused during duty. The exercises and meditation help reduce stress and improve our overall well-being.”
Another CRPF personnel said, “We remain away from our families for long periods and often work under challenging conditions. Yoga gives us inner strength, helps us sleep better and enables us to remain calm while taking important decisions during difficult situations.”
The benefits are particularly relevant in Jammu and Kashmir, where troops frequently operate in high-stress environments and are often required to make split-second decisions during encounters, patrols and emergency situations.
As the world marked International Yoga Day on Sunday, security forces across Jammu and Kashmir participated in yoga sessions, reaffirming the growing role of the ancient practice in strengthening the mental resilience, focus and operational readiness of those safeguarding the nation’s frontiers.
