Sopore: Former MLA Haji Abdul Rashid addressed a gathering of party workers in the Dangerpora area of Sopore on Sunday. expressed his dissatisfaction with Ghulam Nabi Azad, accusing him of deceiving and misleading him into joining his political party.

Haji Abdul Rashid, who has now rejoined the Congress Party, described his decision to join Azad’s party as a blunder. He mentioned that he has not yet retaliated by removing Azad from the party but plans to prove his detractors wrong by winning the upcoming elections by a significant margin.

As reported by Kashmir Despatch, the Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) expelled former Jammu and Kashmir legislator Haji Abdul Rashid from the primary membership of the party last month for alleged “anti-party” activities.

Rashid, who had won the 2014 assembly election from the Sopore constituency of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on a Congress ticket, was among the founding members of the DPAP, which was formed by former chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad in September last year after ending his five-decade-long association with the grand old party.

As per Kashmir Despatch Correspondent, Haji Abdul Rashid, while addressing the workers gathering, emphasized the importance of working at the grassroots level to strengthen the party’s standing, not just in Sopore but also in other districts like Bandipora.

He claimed to be a ground-level worker who understands the realities on the ground, unlike those who rely on outsiders to attract support during rallies, which he considers a means of deceiving the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Among others present on the occasion including district president Fayaz Ahmad Mir, BDC Sheeri Mir Iqbal, party spokesperson Shiekh Amir others present.

Pertinently, 21 prominent J&K leaders joined the Congress in New Delhi earlier this month. Those who joined also included those who quit the Aam Aadmi Party and Ghulam Nabi Azad’s Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP).

The Congress leadership termed this joining of 21 leaders a major boost to the peace process in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Congress in J&K is witnessing a revival after the successful ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ led by Rahul Gandhi last year.
