JAMMU, Nov 24: Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha new mega road projects will open up new livelihood avenues for local population & enhancing tourism and business activities, besides strengthening strategic grid by ensuring all weather connectivity.

The Lieutenant Governor welcomed Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari at Jammu Airport. He laid foundation stone for 25 National Highway Projects of Total Length 257 Km with an Investment of Rs 11,721 Crores.

 “Grateful to Union Minister for Road, Transport & Highways, Nitin Gadkari Ji for laying the foundation of 25 new National Highway projects in Doda today,” he said in a tweet. Sinha said that the robust road network, modern transportation is key to economic growth, prosperity of the region and transformation in every sphere of life. The foundations of Rs 11,721Cr national highway projects laid by Union Minister and seven new projects will pave the way for sustainable development in J&K, he said.

“The new mega road projects will open up new livelihood avenues for local population & enhancing tourism& business activities, besides strengthening strategic grid by ensuring all weather connectivity.Since August 2019,3885 km of road has been built under PMGSY in Jammu div alone.”

As per an official statement released by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, these projects will provide all-weather connectivity between Jammu and Kashmir valley. These are strategically important for swift movement of defence forces along with agricultural, industrial and socio-economic progress of the region, the ministry said.

It further stated that the projects will connect all major roads leading to various district headquarters and will help in the generation of employment and self-employment opportunities.

“The projects will involve Rehabilitation and upgradation of some sections, construction of Viaduct and tunnel and Rectification of black spots,” the ministry said.
