BONIYAR-URI, July 22: A remarkable transformation has taken place in the Boniyar Tehsil of Baramulla district, as a once barren piece of land has been turned into a state-of-the-art sports stadium, thanks to the relentless efforts of the Indian Army.
This initiative has brought immense joy and opportunities for the local residents of Bella Salamabad and nearby areas, who now have access to a top-notch facility to nurture their sporting talents.
The Indian Army, stationed in Boniyar Tehsil, took up the task of creating a modern sports stadium to serve the community. Overcoming challenges presented by the inhospitable terrain, the army personnel tirelessly worked to level the land and construct a suitable playing field with the addition of sand for a smooth surface. Moreover, the stadium has been equipped with proper drainage systems, fencing, and safety measures to ensure a safe and enjoyable sporting experience for the athletes and spectators alike.
The transformation of the land into a sports stadium is a significant achievement, especially considering the speed at which it was completed. The entire project, from conception to completion, was accomplished in an impressive 41 days, making it the first-ever initiative of its kind undertaken by any army unit in the Boniyar Tehsil.
On July 22, 2023, the newly constructed stadium, now known as the ‘Rooh-e-Warzish Sports Stadium,’ was formally inaugurated by former Chief Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey and the General Officer Commanding (GOC) Dagger Division, Maj Gen Rajesh Sethi, who is also a recipient of the Sena Medal (SM) and the Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM). The esteemed presence of these dignitaries marked the significance of this momentous occasion.
The Rooh-e-Warzish Sports Stadium is a multi-sport complex that offers facilities for various sports, including cricket, volleyball, football, kabaddi, and running. Additionally, the stadium has a dedicated running ground to cater to locals preparing for the Agniveer rally, providing them with a perfect venue to hone their running skills.
