Ganderbal, September 9: Ganderbal Police on Wednesday launched an enforcement drive against the illegal sale of cigarettes and other tobacco products in the vicinity of an educational institution in the district.
The operation was led by DySP Headquarters Ganderbal Dr Urfaan, along with SHO Ganderbal Waseem Gull and other police personnel.
During the drive, police conducted inspections and raids at several shops operating near the college and seized cigarette packets found to be on sale.
Police officials directed shopkeepers to strictly refrain from selling cigarettes and other tobacco products near educational institutions and warned them against violating the applicable restrictions.
The enforcement action is aimed at protecting students from exposure to tobacco products and discouraging tobacco consumption among the younger generation.
Police further warned that anyone found violating the restrictions would face action under the relevant provisions of law.
Authorities said similar enforcement drives will continue across the district.
