Ganderbal: A first-of-its-kind arch truss girder bridge over Nallah Sindh in the Wayil area of Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district is nearing completion.
Much to the inconvenience of the commuters, caused by the frequent traffic jams, the authorities have geared up the work on a vital bridge over the Nallah Sindh near Wayil in Ganderbal district.
“The R&B department in Ganderbal has completed 90% of the work on the Wayil Bridge so far, and the work will be completed before January 2023.”
Sources said that a tender was allotted for the construction of a new bridge on Sindh Nallah in the year 2018, financed by the World Bank at a cost of Rs 23 crore 79 lakh. However, due to the lack of an NOC, the construction of the bridge started with a delay of one year.
Finally, in the year 2020, renowned construction company MM Shaal and renowned businessman Kangan Hafiz Construction Company got a new contract. They started construction work of this new bridge in October 2020, and under what design is this bridge being developed? It is the first bridge in Kashmir, which is 110 metres in length, and a footpath is also made for pedestrians on both sides of the bridge. It is being constructed at a height of ten metres from Nallah Sindh.
“According to residents, tourists use this bridge to visit several famous tourist destinations and pilgrims, including Sonamarg, Naranag, and Amarnath sanctuaries located in various areas of the district.”
“They said the Bailey Bridge is so narrow that a pedestrian has to come back in case a heavy vehicle crosses.”
“Executive Engineer R&B Ganderbal Tatheer Manzoor told Rising Kashmir that we have completed 90% of the work on the bridge so far, and the bridge will be completed before the deadline,” the official said.
He further said that this bridge is a fast-type bridge in north India. stating that it is the first arch truss girder bridge.
