GDC Bla holds media festival

Baramulla, Sep 20: The Department of Media Studies Government Degree College (GDC) Baramulla organized a day-long media festival on College campus on Wednesday.

The media institutions from Kashmir and other states and independent media professionals participated in the event.

In his inaugural address, Dr. Danish Nabi, Head of Department (HOD) of Media Studies at GDC Baramulla, extended a warm welcome to all guests and participating students.

“The Media Festival aimed to provide a platform for professional multimedia media students to showcase their work in front of media professionals discerning juries,” Danish Nabi, said.

The event saw an enthusiastic gathering, including students from Govt College for Women M A Road Srinagar, Govt Degree College Anantnag, Kashmir University, Cluster University Srinagar, and students from different higher institutions of Baramulla.

The event featured esteemed guests, including Principal Dr. Farooq Ahmad Rather, Vice Principal Dr. Tariq Ahmad Chalkoo, Bashrat Masood, senior correspondent Indian express, Talha Jehngir, renowned radio broadcaster, Mr. Mushtaq Ali, the well known film maker and faculty members from various media colleges in the valley. Afzal Sofi, a well known film maker, Sameer Ashraf,videography and photography expert was among the distinguished jurors evaluating the student’s work.

Mohd Farooq Rather, in his speech highlights the role of professional journalists in today’s world. He highlights the need of ethical and professional journalists in the current era to communicate effectively and provide unbiased information.

The Media Festival spanned a day filled with creative expressions, including the screening of approximately 8 films produced by students of media institutions of Kashmir valley and beyond.

The short films, documentaries received praise from the audience for their innovative storytelling. The photography exhibition featured captivating visuals, while skit performances addressing media and social issues added a thought-provoking dimension to the festival by the students.

Appreciating the products made by media students, Aijazul Haq, producer EMMRC Kashmir University said that such events provide opportunities to media professionals to showcase their and learn professionalism.

“The department of media studies GDC Baramulla predouce multimedia professionals. To meet the demand of industry,”Mushtaque Ali Khan a renowned Kashmiri filmmaker said.

A prize distribution ceremony concluded the festival after the screening of all movies and skits, recognizing and celebrating the outstanding efforts of the participating students.

In the film competition, ‘Aisha’ produced by department of media studies M.A road Srinager won first prize. While second prize was won by, ‘Kasa Darov’ produced by Loyola college Chennai. The short movie Magic lamp produced by S.R.M welkin has won the third position in film competition.

In Photography essay competition, Mohisn Aarif has won first prize while Junaid Bashir has won second prize both are the students of media studies GDC Baramulla. While Amar singh college won 3rd prize.

Kashmir Convener, the daily newspaper, was the media partner for this event. Additionally, Institute of public enterprises Hyderabad was the academic partner for the event, Vyeth publishing house and City look served as the official sponsors of the festival.

The event was concluded with vote of thanks by Prof. Tariq Ahmad Chalkoo, vice principal GDC Baramulla.
