Baramulla: December 1 is marked as World AIDS Day, and the whole world comes together to mourn those 35 million people who have succumbed to the condition ever since its identification in 1984.
As per Kashmir Despatch Correspondent, In connection with the observance of World AIDS Day and keeping in view the overall health scenario, a function was held in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
The programme was organised by the Micro Biology Department of GMC in collaboration with Government Degree College Baramulla.
On the occasion, GMC Principal Dr. Ruby Reshi attended as the chief guest; besides GDC Principal Professor Farooq Ahmad Rather and Vice Principal Prof. Tariq Ahmad Chalkoo, others were present.
Many speakers shed light on the occasion and gave the keynote address, emphasising the importance of convergence among stakeholders in preventing the spread of HIV/AIDS.
The speakers included Dr. Umara, Dr. Shakeel ul Rehman, Dr. Ashiq Ilahi, Dr. Showkat Ahamd, and Dr. Amrit Paul Kour, along with students of GDC.
Speaking on the occasion, GMC Bla Principal Dr. Ruby Reshi said there is a grave need to organise such programmes because the lack of awareness is still inadequate and people should know how it happens and what can be done about it.
She said using the same syringe and unprotected mating are the real concerns.
Dr. Rubi said that there are myths that it happens by living close to each other, which is not true.
It is pertinent to mention here that Aids is a life-threatening disease in which a person’s immune system becomes weak and redundant, thereby causing it to easily get affected by various common infections, which in most cases lead to death.
