Pampore, 23 Mar: Govt Degree College (GDC) Pampore organized a mega plantation drive. The drive was organized by the ECO-Club and NSS unit of the college in collaboration with the Social Forestry Department, Rahim Greens and Birla Open Minds Society.
The drive was coordinated by Dr. Iqbal Malik. Speaking on the occasion Prof. Huda Galzai highlighted the importance of the plantation drive. The plantation drive Started with ceremonial plantation of conifer trees by Prof (Dr.) Huda Galazi, principal of the college, Mr. Iqbal DFO SF Pulwama, Mr. Abdul Hamid Bhat, Chairman Rahim Greens, Mr Lone Chairman BOMS Senior Superintendent of Police (SDPO) Krishan Ratan and Dr. Mehnaz, Principal Birla Open Minds.
A large number of students, volunteers, staff of the college and forest officials were present on the occasion.
The drive marked the inauguration of a week-long plantation event in which more than 500 trees will be planted in the campus.
Dr. Irfan Khursheed Shah, coordinator Eco-club highlighted the important green initiatives taken by the college while Prof. Kasira, NSS coordinator appreciated the role of NSS and Eco Club volunteers in organizing the activity .
The week-long event will conclude with the planting of 1000 trees by faculty, students and student volunteers of Eco club and NSS. The trees planted during the event included Pines and Cedars.
