GDC Tral students emerge winners in District Softball Championship

Pulwama: The teams of Government Degree College Tral emerged as winners in the District Softball Championship, which was organised by the District Pulwama Softball Association at Sports Stadium in the Bajwani area of Tral Sub District. 

As per the officials, the tournament was organized in collaboration with the Department of Youth Services and Sports, where the teams from all several areas of Pulwama district participated.

The officials said that around nine softball teams participated in the tournament, which included 05 boys’ and 04 girls’, while Govt Degree college softball team won the tournament.

“GDC Tral outplayed all the participating teams and emerged as winners in the senior category both Boys and Girls. ADC Tral felicitated the participants and ensured that such events will be organised in future also to uplift the sports standard of the area,” One of the officials said. 

Speaking at the ceremony, ADC Tral Shabir Ahmad Raina said that sports are important as academics for students for their overall personality development. 

He urged students to pledge for maintaining discipline and creating the best sportsmanship, and called sports an emerging and potential carrier in the near future, while he also stressed the role of sports in promoting social cohesion and pluralism.

He said that there is no dearth of sports talent in the district and many sportspersons from the district are representing at the national level.

Meanwhile, Prof. Mushtaq Ahmad Lone, Principal of GDC Tral congratulated both the boys’ and girls’ team of GDC Tral for showing brilliant performance in the Championship and bringing laurels to the College. 

He also praised the efforts of Umar Rashid (HOD) Physical Education for always working hard and training students in an efficient manner in order to bring laurels to the College.
